day 39: tuesday
- up around 8 for class at 9... as usual we didn't get to half of what we meant to, but petrie did tell me during the break that he was really impressed by my in-class pop quiz writing i did yesterday which was nice to hear.
- ramen for lunch back at the apartment. i was so hungry i also got a sandwich and fruit salad from the cafe downstairs just across from our apartment... it was delicious

devil mosaic on baptistry ceiling

- kari, caryn and i visited the baptistry and santa croce, crossing two more florence must-sees off our bucket list. the mosaic ceiling of the baptistry, including a 19ft jesus, was quite impressive and caryn and i enjoyed deciphering all the stories represented. santa croce is predominantly known for its "celebrity tombs" including galileo, leon battista alberti (the architect our apartment is named after), michelangelo, ghiberti, raffaello... and machiavelli! there is also a memorial to dante (who is actually buried in ravenna) and many other tombs, but we went primarily to pay homage to machiavelli
- after scouring every leather boutique between santa croce and our apartment, i was finally successful in my mission to buy myself a white leather belt! i love my white belt, but it's falling apart so i figured a proper leather one from florence would be an appropriate successor
- siesta for about two hours until 7pm when i reluctantly got up so we could buy milk before the store closed
- went out with caryn and david for gelato from the gelateria around the corner - it was so good!
- hung out with david, caryn, kari and kelly (who came over to steal some laundry detergent), skyped greg, made dinner, did the dishes, took a shower and went to bed
