- woke up at 7:45, discovered our apartment is severely lacking in the cereal bowl department, and got ready for class. it was so exciting to net need to leave until 8:45... the walk across the river is so short!
- first class with petrie. it's been a while since i've been in class with him, so it's taking some time to get used to his erratic style of teaching again. this was further compounded by my excitement to finally have an internet connection! needless to say, my focus in class was a little less than stellar
- bought some apricots from the market right outside our class building with kari and caryn and decided to walk home across the ponte vecchio since it's only slightly out of the way... i have never seen so many jewelry stores in my life! it was incredible. we took a few of the obligatory tourist + river photos and carried on our merry way
- stopped at a little cafe and bought paninis for lunch (i will miss this part of italy so much) and wandered down to the piazza outside the uffizi gallery (the massive statue of david was a dead giveaway) and sat on the curb right outside CHANEL to eat. there was a man playing accordian at the cafe next to us and horse-drawn buggies constantly running through the piazza. another perfect italian moment
- figured out our way back to the apartment, passing tiffany, gucci, burberry, and pretty much every other designer store ever on the way. kari was in heaven and i quite enjoy looking at all their window displays (even though i would be terrified to ever go into one of those stores) we also found the H&M, my idea of heaven.
- siesta/reading break (the internet even worked for most of it!) back at the apartment before heading back to the ACCENT center to learn about art history and the significance of florentine art and architecture specifically... it was actually quite interesting. we have quite a busy class schedule this first week!
- talked to greg (the internet in the apartment has been working so much better!) and read a little bit of machiavelli
- went to the duomo with caryn to meet up with her parents. we went out to dinner at a little restaurant across the ponte vecchio and then walked back to the piazza vecchio where we had lunch to take some pictures with the david replica and go inside the palazzo vecchio right next to uffizi.
- walked back down the river to caryn's parent's hotel. the sun was setting over the river and it was absolutely beautiful
- hung out in caryn's parent's hotel for a bit while they exchanged mail, kleenex and caryn's shoes from eileen!
- we realized we were absolutely exhausted, even though we didn't do much with our day, so we walked back to our apartments, did some reading, and passed out
